A contemporary artist, Polly paints expressively and energetically to create work that captures her experience of the landscape.
Using our award-winning gardens and surrounding grounds as artistic stimuli, Polly will be in residency for nine months, working to create a series of artworks that will be showcased in an exhibition here next Spring.
“I feel very proud and privileged to have been asked to become the first Artist in Residence at Parham House & Gardens,” comments Polly. “I will be sketching and painting in the grounds over the next few months. My hope is to capture and reflect the atmosphere and energy of the beautiful setting.”
Having trained as a photographer at Birmingham School of Photography in the 1970s, Polly forged a successful photography business for many years in Birmingham and South Devon. Despite a lifetime passion for painting, it wasn’t until seven years ago, that she decided to become a full-time painter.
Polly trained under local artists Catharine Somerville and Christopher Baker whose work has been exhibited at The Royal Academy of Arts in London and Brighton Museum of Art as she sought to establish her own artistic voice.
Her latest collection, inspired by the South Downs landscape, is being showcased at a public exhibition called The Land at Candida Stevens Gallery in Chichester from 24 June – 26 August.
