Discover Parham House’s Remarkable Needlework Collection
Parham House is home to one of the finest collections of 16th and 17th century needlework and embroidery in the country. Rich in history, artistry and craftsmanship, the collection offers a fascinating insight into the skill and creativity of generations past.

The existence of this extraordinary collection owes a great deal to the enthusiasm and expertise of three generations of the Pearson family: Lady Brabourne, her daughter Alicia Pearson, and her granddaughter Veronica Tritton. All three were highly accomplished needlewomen who shared a passion for historic embroidery. They collected remarkable examples of early needlework while also recreating historic designs themselves, not for commercial gain, but simply for the enjoyment and challenge of preserving these traditional techniques.
Their talent is evident throughout Parham House. One particularly striking example can be found in the Saloon, where visitors will discover a pair of elegant winged back chairs. One chair is an original 18th-century piece, while its identical companion was painstakingly recreated in 1924 by Lady Brabourne and Alicia Pearson. Their meticulous stitching and attention to detail make it almost impossible to distinguish between the two, providing a wonderful demonstration of their remarkable craftsmanship.
A Rare Opportunity to See More
From Wednesday 5th August until Wednesday 30th September, visitors will have the opportunity to view even more of Parham’s treasured textile collection. During this special display, a selection of rarely exhibited historic embroideries will be brought out of storage and displayed throughout the House during normal opening hours.

These delicate pieces are not often available for public viewing, making this a unique opportunity to appreciate the intricate techniques, vibrant designs and incredible workmanship that have survived for centuries. Each piece tells its own story, reflecting changing fashions, domestic life and the artistic traditions of its time.
Whether you have a passion for textiles and embroidery, an interest in historic interiors, or simply enjoy discovering the stories behind exceptional collections, this special display promises to be a highlight of the season.
