What to See

The Saloon

Legend has it that this beautiful room was originally a wood store, with doors leading to all parts of the house. In 1790 it was remodelled elegantly in cream and gold by the 12th Lord Zouche.

The dessert service on the Regency breakfast table is by Barr, Flight and Barr, a wedding present to Lord Zouche’s son Cecil who died in the American War in 1813 and is buried near Niagara Falls.

Two 18th century views of London and the Thames by William James hang opposite the windows and are painted in the style of Canaletto.
